FG to Deliver Additional 10,000 Housing Units to Nigerians

In line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s mass housing scheme, the housing sector is positioned to witness a massive revolution in a bid to offset the housing deficit in the country. The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi said a total of 43,126 housing units have been built across the country between July 2010 and September 2014.

The minister spoke at the on-going ministerial platform in Abuja, adding before her tenure expires in May next year, 10,000 additional housing units would be delivered to Nigerians.

She said, “Before the end of my tenure, let me assure you that the pro
jected 10,000 housing units would be delivered. The interim report detailing the priority actions for the realisation of the objective of the scheme has been prepared and adopted. We are encouraged by the large number of competent developers and builders that showed interest in participating in the process. All elected developers and builders will be evaluated under a transparent and well-articulated system of eligibility criteria in order to create a level playing field for all stakeholders."

In moving Nigeria forward, President Jonathan has made the delivery of affordable housing to Nigerians a priority, reducing the housing deficit he met on ground in 2010.
