FG Warns Against Sigmatising EVD Survivors


The President Goodluck Jonathan led Federal Government warned all employers to avoid stigmatizing Nigerians who were recently discharged from Ebola isolation and quarantine centres. The government reiterated its commitment to total enforcement of the country’s principle and guidelines of “No Stigmatisation, No Discrimination and No Termination of Employment of Workers” for survivors of the Ebola Virus Disease(EVD), after the World Health Organisation declared Nigeria free of EVD.

Health.jpgPermanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity Dr. Clement Illoh stated that the measure was in compliance with the mandate of the ministry on protection of the nation’s labour-force. He commended the role of the Federal Ministry of Health in the containment of EVD in Nigeria, and stressed the need for continuous preventive action in view of globalisation and high mobility of world population.

“No doubt, Government in line with the Transformation Agenda of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, has shown greater commitment to occupational safety and health, with the recruitment of more doctors, nurses, Medical laboratory scientists, among others," he said.

President Jonathan is moving Nigeria forward.
