Federal Government Approves ₦273m for Feasibility Study of Abuja Rail Project

The Federal Executive Council led by President Goodluck Jonathan approved a honor of agreement for the attainability study and theoretical configuration of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit system.

State House Correspondents after the board gathering, Supervising Minister of Information Dr. Nurudeen Muhammed unveiled parcels 4, 5 and 6 of the rail undertaking were honored in the total N272.7m with a finish time of one year. The data minister further noted financing for the agreement would be sourced from a procurement of N280million in the 2014 FCT Statutory Appropriation for the undertaking.


“The FCT Rail Mass Transit system is designed primarily as a mover of people within and between the satellite towns and the different phases of the city. Also, the Abuja rail system will be integrated with the planned national rail network. The projects upon completion will reduce traffic congestion, shorten journeys distances and reduce pressure on existing public transport services. The project will also provide employment opportunities to about 5,000 skilled and unskilled workers while about 4,500 skilled workers will be engaged in the direct operation of the system on completion,” the minister stated.


The FCT Minister Senator Bala Mohammed was likewise at the briefing and clarified further that Lot 4 of the rail framework is from Kuje to Karshi, Lot 5 from Kubwa to Bwari and Lot 6 from Airport to Gwagwalada. As per him, Lot 2 of the rail framework will pass on travelers from downtown area to Kubwa in Bwari Area Council.


As a component of his huge infrastructural advancement drive, President Jonathan has contributed a considerable measure of assets and vitality in the recovery of the nation’s rail framework which had been in trance like state for quite a long time.
