Malaria: Niger To Get 2.7m Treated Mosquito Nets


In accordance to President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts to eradicate malaria in Nigeria, the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) is set to distribute 2.7 million treated mosquito nets across the 25 local government areas of Niger State.

permanet.jpgMrs. Adaeze Aidenagbon, the leader of the state support team of NMEP, disclosed this yesterday during a media orientation programme organised by Society for Family Health in Minna to acquaint the media of the knowledge of the consistent use of the Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLIN).

“The last distribution of mosquitoes nets in Niger State was in 2009, and there is need for replacement of these nets after a period of four years. The last distribution of these nets was one net card to two nets for an household, the system has changed now to one net card to one per 1.8 persons, that is maximum of four net cards per household,” she added.

President Jonathan’s efforts put into eradicating malaria in Nigeria are yielding positive results as the prevalence of the malaria disease has reduced drastically during his administration, helping move Nigeria forward.
