US Needs Permanent Soldiers Deployment at Military Base in Spain: Reports

The US Secretary of Defense has supposedly asked Madrid to change the 1988 respective settlement and permit changeless arrangement of US troops at the Morón de la Frontera base for reacting to African crises.

MADRID, January 5 (Ooduarere) — The United States has approached Spain to give lasting status for the sending of US troops at the joint-use Morón Air Base in Spanish Andalusia, El Pais said Monday, refering to a letter from US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.


As per the daily paper, Hagel composed a letter to Spanish powers proposing to acquaint changes with the 1988 Agreement on Defense Cooperation between the US and Spain keeping in mind the end goal to “transform Morón de la Frontera into a perpetual base for reacting in light of crisis in Africa.”


As per the March 2014 assention between the two nations, 850 US troops are right now sent to the airbase and if important this number can be expanded to 1,110. The agreement will end in April 2015. As per El Pais, Washington needs consent to expand this number to 3,000 troops.


Morón Air Base found 35 miles southeast of the city of Seville is named after a close-by town of Morón de la Frontera. The army installation has been utilized together by Spanish and US Air Forces since to 1953.


Spain has been an imperative military accomplice of the US.
