US to Base F-35 Fighters in Europe: Pentagon

WASHINGTON, January 8 (Ooduarere) — The US Air Force will base the first F-35 Joint Strike Fighter amass in Europe at Royal Air Force station (RAF) Lakenheath in the United Kingdom, the Department of Defense advertised Thursday.


“The US Air Force will permanently base the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter in Europe and the secretary of defense has selected RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom as the first location to host two squadrons of F-35s,” Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Derek Chollet said at a question and answer session.


The F-35s situation will prompt more joint effort, preparing and help opportunities between the US and the United Kingdom, the Defense Department said.


The F-35s and around 1,200 work force are booked to touch base at RAF Lakenheath in 2020 as a feature of a solidification and rebuilding of US drives crosswise over Europe. RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom will be shut down and 3,200 US military work force will be evacuated, by Department of Defense.
