Adedeji, who just resumed as the head of the task force, spoke on Wednesday at the unit’s office in Alausa.
He said in line with the vision of the new government in the state, the task force would reduce clamping down on suspected criminals and offenders.
He said instead, the government would hold stakeholders’ meetings with residents and adopt ways to identify and apprehend suspected criminals.
He said, “I am the 11th chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offence Unit and I have been mandated to put human face in the enforcement of the law.
“We are going to do this with the cooperation of everybody. Government alone cannot provide security; it requires the cooperation of everyone. The members of the public must be disciplined so that the police will have lesser work to do.
Adedeji said the unit would meet with members of the transport unions, market men and women and other stakeholders on the way forward.
He said, “The vision of Lagos State is to get rid of criminals and acts of criminalities. So, we are going to create hotlines for citizens to report security challenges in their areas.
“Law enforcement is not about confrontation all the time. That is why we will dialogue to see if we can have a better result.
“Religious leaders also have a role to play on the issue of crime; we will explore this opportunity to ensure we have a peaceful Lagos.”
He said the members of the task force had been warned against corruption and extortion of Lagosians, adding that anyone found guilty would be sanctioned.
