He spoke during an interactive session with a US delegation at the Lagos House, Marina.
During the discussion, which bordered on the deepening of democracy, trade relations and tackling Boko Haram, Ambode said the US democratic experience would be beneficial to Lagos and Nigeria.
He said, “The parliamentary structure that we have is synonymous with what is obtainable in the US. The All Progressives Congress is the first party in the history of Nigeria to unseat an incumbent government.

“I also want to let you know that you are in the commercial capital of Nigeria, Lagos. The population is nearing 21 million of which four million are the middle class. We are the fifth largest economy in Africa and our GDP has hit $131bn.”
He said he wanted to touch many lives and make life easier for residents in the next four years, latching onto the experience of the US to better the lot of Lagosians.

“Lagos is more like New York because it is a cosmopolitan state where the largest concentration of foreigners lives. So it’s important that everyone is carried along,” he said.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Congressman Issa Darelle, a Republican, said Nigeria should strive to do better than the American democratic experience.
He also urged Lagos State to collaborate with the Federal Government to tackle insecurity issues in the country, saying the fight could not be left alone for the government at the centre to handle.
