We Have Shed Ourselves Of Godfatherism – PDP National Chairman

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tuesday declared that the era of godfatherism was over as it has resolved to return the PDP to the grass-roots ahead of the 2019 general elections. It therefore called on anyone eager to secure the party’s ticket to make him or herself popular among the people.

Speaking in Abuja while receiving members of a pressure group in the party – the PDP National Rebirth Group who paid a solidarity visit to the National Working Committee, NWC of the Party, the PDP acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, noted that the opposition party has learnt its lessons and was not ready to repeat the mistakes of the past.

He assured the group that all the recommendations of the Chief Ike Ekweremadu-led Post Election Review Committee approved last week by the National Executive Committee, NEC, would be implemented to the letter by the party’s NWC.

In Secondus’ words, “the first step towards returning the party to the grass root, who are the owners, is to kick-start the biometric membership registration nationwide in two weeks time.
“We have done the pilot scheme in Edo state and it was very successful, with this, we are going to move to the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, for membership drive.
“With this development, there will be no remote control of the party by any influential individual member or groups, no one, I repeat, no one will stop anybody from realising his or her ambition of becoming anything in the party,” he assured.

Prince Secondus who reiterated that the party would pick its Presidential candidate from the Northern part of the Country in line with the Committee’s Report also assured that in the new dispensation, the youths would be deeply involved in all the Party’s programmes and allowed them to seek for elective offices at all time in the future elections
Speaking earlier, the National Coordinator of the Group, Comrade Franklyn Edebe disclosed that the group was formed following the woeful outing of the party in the last general elections in order to contribute its quota towards the rebuilding of the party ahead of the future elections.
Comrade Edebe who took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government over what he termed the governing party’s misrule since assuming office, however expressed confidence in the current Party’s NWC led by Secondus as regards rebranding the party and taking it to the promised land.
