Buhari Has Shown Commitment To Palestine For The First Time – Ambassador

The State of Palestine Ambassador to Nigeria, Saleh Fried has stated that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari was the first sitting President supporting the state of Palestine in their struggle for liberation since 1948.

He gave this revelation while speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja at a ceremony to mark the annual International day of solidarity, which was set aside by the United Nations Organisation.
“My role here in Nigeria is to promote political, cultural and socio-economic relationship between Nigeria and the state of Palestine and for the first time, the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has shown commitment to Palestine’s struggle”, he said.

He added that President Buhari was the first Nigeria President to have spoken for the world to rally support for the liberation of Palestinians at the United Nations General Assembly.
“We have received a positive signal on 28th of September this year when Buhari spoke on the state of Palestine and Israel issue at the United Nations. He is the first Nigeria President to speak at that important arena”, he noted.

Speaking in the same vein, the leader of Friends of Palestine, Ishaq Moddibo Kawu who were on a solidarity visit to the envoy noted that the world should rise to recognise the inalienable rights and sovereignty of the people of Palestine, stressing that it was the non-recognition of Palestinians’ rights that triggers problems of the middle east today.

“The whole idea is for the world to identify with the struggle of Palestine people and that these people whose rights have been taken away since 1948 should be restored”, Kawu said.
Kawu explained that Africans found themselves in similar struggle in the era of imperialism and colonialism and that when they were struggling for liberation, they saw it as a worldwide independence, noting that African Liberation movement worked closely with Palestinians Liberation movement and other liberation movement across the globe.
