Elections In Southern Ijaw Cancelled Due To Violence, Irregularities

New date to be announced
The result of the controversial Bayelsa State governorship election in Southern Ijaw local government area has been cancelled due to violence and irregularities.
A new date is to be announced later, according to INEC.

Some women had taken to the streets of Yenagoa to protest the yet to be announced Southern Ijaw LGA governorship result. The women had gathered at the peace park opposite Govt. House before moving to the collation centre located less than 300 metres from the Govt. House in protest.
However, some youths who attempted to do the same did not find it easy as they were mercilessly beaten by battle-ready policemen as they moved towards the collation centre. As at the time of this report, the police are still speaking with the women while trying to make sure the situation does not escalate.
Before then, the result in Nembe local government area had been announced with APC scoring 6,974 votes while PDP scored 10,768.
