Russia Warns Turkey of Consequences of Ankara's 'Reckless Actions'

Russia's Defense Ministry warned the Turkish military attache of the possible consequences Ankara's "reckless actions" towards Russia's Armed Forces entail.

"The Turkish military attache was warned of the possible negative consequences of Ankara's reckless actions towards Russia's Armed Forces which are tasked with battling international terrorism in Syria," Russia's Defense Ministry said.

The ministry stated that the attache was informed of deep concern over yet another provocation by the Turkish side against the Russian "Smetlivy" frigate in the Aegean Sea, which was forced to open fire in order to avoid collision with a seiner vessel.
The Turkish military attache Ahmet Gunes promised to convey the Russian statement to Ankara, according to the ministry.

"Rear Admiral Ahmet Gunes promiced to immediately bring to Turkey's notice Russia's protest," the ministry said.

Earlier in the day, the crew of the Russian Smetlivy frigate managed to prevent collision with a Tukish seiner in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. Following the incident, the military attache at the Turkish Embassy in Moscow was urgently summoned to the Russian Defense Ministry.
