Forgery: Court Can’t Stop Police Investigation -IGP

…Says Saraki, Ekweremadu, others have no immunity over criminal investigations
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, yesterday, challenged the powers of the Federal High Court to stop the police from investigating the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order 2015 (as amended), even as he said the police was not taking sides on the matter.
The police boss stated that rather, investigating the alleged forgery in the Senate would strengthen the integrity of the upper legislative house and its leadership.

Live Above Board, Saraki Tells CDS, Service Chiefs


The Senate yesterday, after several hours of screening, confirmed the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and service chiefs.  The screening which lasted for about four hours, was held in a closed door-session.  President Muhammadu Buhari recently requested the Red Chamber in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to approve the appointments he made on July 13. Saraki urged the security chiefs to live above board.

Boko Haram: Cameroon Deports Over 3000 Nigerians

YAOUNDE, (AP) — Cameroon has expelled over 3,000 Nigerians as part of the fight against Nigeria’s Islamic extremists who have launched attacks across borders, officials said Tuesday.
Suspected Boko Haram fighters disguised as refugees with explosives hidden in their luggage were arrested at a camp in northern Cameroon Monday, Cameroon’s government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary said Tuesday.

Suspect Detained After Jade Helm Military Base Comes Under Gunfire Again



For the second straight day, gunshots were fired Wednesday near a military post in Mississippi where US Army soldiers are in the midst of a training exercise.

Soldiers training at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg reported that shots were fired into the air around 8 a.m. in the same area where gunfire was reported on Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Christian Patterson, a spokesman at the Mississippi Military Department, said in a statement.

Ndigbo Group Commends Buhari Over Appointment Of NNPC GMD

ECOWAS Parliamentarian Advocates Free Education


A member of ECOWAS Parliament, Sen. Haward Taylor, of Liberia on Wednesday in Abuja urged all ECOWAS member countries to make basic education free of charge for their citizens.
Taylor made the call during an interview the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She said that adopting a free education policy would be a major stepping stone towards a more prosperous West Africa.
Taylor said it would provide affordable and equal opportunities for every school age child in the region.

Russia declassifies the report on the aftermath of the US nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Russian Historical Society has published a report of the Soviet ambassador to Japan on the aftermath of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki from the Archive of Foreign Policy of Russia in time for the 70-th anniversary of the attacks. The report was recorded a month after the attacks.

The following are the highlights of the report:


The train terminal and the city of Hiroshima were destroyed so much that there was no shelter to hide from the rain. 

The city was a scorched plain with 15-20 cement buildings left standing. 

Several dozen thousand people huddled in the dugouts on the outskirts of the city.

People who came to help the victims during the first 5-10 days died.

Senate Summons CBN Gov. Over Falling Value Of Naira


After a brief debate, the Senate on Wednesday agreed to summon Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the state of the economy, especially on the falling value of the naira.

The senators said the presence of Emefiele is needed in the upper chamber to brief members especially on the implications of the free fall of the naira and on what is being done to halt the depreciation of the currency.

Do you support the ban on wearing full-face veil in Nigeria to prevent suicide attacks?

Aminu Gamawa asks. Recently Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon have suffered repeated suicide attacks by women, girls and even men disguised as females. Last month, Chad banned the full-face veil after series of Boko Haram suicide bombing carried out by attackers disguised as women wearing veils. Cameroon followed suit by also banning burkas and face-covering veils in the aftermath of suicide bombings by females in burkas and veils, that killed many people in the Northern part of the country. Is banning the full-face veil a good counter-terrorism measure? Should Nigeria do same? What do you guys think?

Family murdered in gruesome witchcraft ritual

Three people have been found dead inside of a home on Deerfield Drive in Pensacola.
Officials say when Deputies responded to the home for a welfare check on Friday, they discovered the bodies.
The victims have been identified as 77-year-old Voncile Smith, 47-year-old John William Smith and 49-year-old Richard Thomas Smith.

Officials believe the three may have been victims of a horrific witchcraft ritual.

77 year old tourist trampled to death by cows while taking shortcut in the Swiss Alps


A 77-year-old German tourist is dead after she was attacked by cows while hiking through a pasture in the Swiss Alps. The woman was taking a shortcut through a fenced-off area, and there was a sign warning people to avoid the cows. The bizarre incident occurred near Laax, in the canton of Graubunden, as the woman was walking to the Grauberg gondola station from a restaurant. She passed through an electric fence and was knocked over and trampled by cows as they grazed on a trail, said police. The animals were apparently trying to protect their calves. A cyclist called for help and a doctor attended the scene, but the woman, from Berlin, died at the scene despite attempts to resuscitate her.

The Central Bank of Nigeria-initiated name and shame campaign of banks’ delinquent debtors gained further momentum on Wednesday as First City Monument Bank Limited and Ecobank Nigeria published their lists.  The lists have the names of popular companies, whose directors are prominent Nigerians appearing among the high non-performing loan defaulters.
