Presidency: Policy Direction Will Be Clear With Appointment of Economic Team


President Muhammadu Buhari’s clear-cut economic policy direction will become evident once the much-awaited economic team is constituted, the presidency has said.
The president’s media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, who made this disclosure while responding to questions on “Buhari: The First 100 Days,” on THISDAY’s social media platform and website, in which readers were encouraged to ask the president questions on his first 100 days in office, his government and policy direction, stated that once the ministers are appointed, greater attention would be given to critical sectors of the economy.

Falae: Farmers serve govt ultimatum, vow action against herdsmen



Farmers in Ondo state have given a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government for the release of a former minister, Olu Falae, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Akure on Monday.
The farmers, who are members of the Ondo State Agricultural Commodities Association, on Wednesday, summoned a meeting in Akure warning that the failure to release Mr. Falae would elicit a reaction from the farmers that would make an impact across the country.

Saudi Arabia getting ready to behead & crucify young protester arrested when he was 17-years-old



Saudi Arabia is to execute Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, a Shi’ite Muslim over his role in anti-government protests in 2012, despite protests that he was a minor when arrested. Activists say he could be beheaded and crucified as early as his week.

Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, the nephew of a prominient Shi’ite cleric was given the death penalty in May after taking part in demonstrations three years ago for democracy and equal rights in Saudi Arabia’s oil-producing Eastern Province as a 17-year-old high school student.

Two children of the same parents were burnt to death in a fire outbreak at `Bovas’ petrol station in Osogbo on Wednesday, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, told NAN that the victims were children of the owner of the station. The mother of the children also suffered burns while trying to rescue her children.

Modern automatic aircraft cannons are a combination of artillery guns and rates of fire usually found on conventional machine guns. Some types of Russian-made canons can fire even faster than that.


One of these wonder weapons is the Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-6-23 six-barreled 23 mm rotary cannon.
The GSh-6-23 has an extremely high rate of fire, with maximum cyclic rates of 9,000 to 10,000 rounds per minute. Compared to the US M61 Vulcan, the GSh-6-23 fires 50-66 percent more rounds per minute, has a heavier projectile, but lower muzzle velocity. The weapon is also lighter and shorter.

APC Blames Mimiko For Olu Falae's Kidnap -

The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has blamed Governor Olusegun Mimiko, for the abduction of the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae.

The APC said this in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, on Wednesday.

The party also berated the governor for the high rate of kidnapping, rape, robbery, extrajudicial killing and other social vices in the state.

Dwindling Revenue: FG, States, Lgs Share N422.6bn August Allocation

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Anastasia Nwaobia, has said that N422.6 billion was shared among the federal, states and local governments as revenue for August.

Nwaobia announced this in Abuja, on Tuesday, when she addressed newsmen on the outcome of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting. She said that the shared amount comprised the month's net statutory revenue of N369.1 billion. "Also, there is the exchange gain of N4.9 billion which is proposed for distribution."Therefore, the total revenue distributable for the month of August, including Value Added Tax (VAT) of N62.1 billion, is N442.6billion," she said.

Beninoise Kills Man While Fighting Over Birthday Pig (Pictured)


Tragedy struck on Sunday in Tarkwa Bay, on the Lagos Island area of Lagos State, after a 30-year-old Beninoise, Samuel Francis, stabbed to death 35-year-old Clement Houme, during a scuffle for a birthday pig.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Samuel had been contracted by a relative of the deceased, identified as Victoria, to kill the pig for her birthday celebration.

On arriving at the Abule area with his brother, Jeff Francis, the deceased was reported to have challenged them on where they got the pig from.

THE Lagos State Police Command, yesterday arrested three persons, among them, a trado-med­ical doctor, over alleged theft and sale of a two-week old baby.  The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects yesterday at the command headquarters, Ikeja, identified the trado-medical doctor as Ono­laja Olawale and the two suspects as Mr and Mrs Ayogbinle.

He said that the tradi­tional doctor was instru­mental to the sale of the baby, while the couple, were the buyers.

Cattle Rustlers Kill Monarch, Police Inspector, 33 Others

An unspecified number of people were killed on Tuesday evening by gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers in shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, the police and community sources have said.

A village head in the area, who pledged anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday that the victims included the district Head of Allawa in shiroro, a police inspector and 33 others.

DHQ Warns Against Circulation Of Fake National ID Cards


The Nigerian military authorities have issued a red alert against the prevailing incidences of unauthorised reproduction of the national identity cards by some unscrupulous elements in society.

A statement signed by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar said, “In view of the prevailing racketeering, the Defence Headquarters hereby warns members of the public to be mindful of getting their national identification from sources other than the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).”
