Rice Importation Not Good For Our Economy – Senate


ABUJA – THE Senate,yesterday, summoned the Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service,Col. Hameed Ali,to appear before it to explain why he did not only ordered the removal of rice from import restriction list but also approved its importation through land borders.
The Senate said Ali would appear before its Ad- hoc Committee on Import Duty Waivers, on a yet to be determined date, to explain reasons behind his action, which it noted to be beyond him since the order restricting rice importation through land borders was a presidential one , issued in 2011.
The action of the Red Chamber was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero,APC,Kebbi Central,and supported by 28 other senators, which was debated upon during plenary.

Below is a summary of the CV of three of the ministerial nominees 

Rotimi Amaechi: Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi was born May 27th, 1965 at Umuordu - Ubima, IkwerreLG of Rivers State. ‎Amaechi‬ attended St. Theresa's Primary School, Ubima & later Govt Secondary School,Okolobiri for his WASC in 1982. Amaechi studied at the University of Port Harcourt where he bagged a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Amaechi also got a Masters in English Literature from the same University of Port Harcourt.

Wike In ‘Last Ditch Effort’ To Stop Me, Says Amaechi


Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, says Nyesom Wike, his successor, is trying all within his powers to stop him from becoming a member of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
Denying the allegation that N53 billion got missing from the state’s treasury under him, Amaechi described the panel which Wike mandated to investigate him as “invidious”.
Wike received the report of the commission on Wednesday and promised to effect its recommendations “immediately”.

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Uche Secondus, on Wednesday in Abuja said the party has zoned its presidential ticket for the 2019 general elections to the North. The party also said it would not repeat the “mistakes” it made in 2015. Details later…

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has identified politics in matters of religion and tribe as a major problem facing the Nation at the moment. Speaking at the National Ecumenical Center Abuja where the Thanksgiving service to commemorate the 55th Independence of Nigeria held yesterday September 27th, Osinbajo said Nigerians must dissociate themselves with from such tribal and religious lines as the issues that affect the country affects all irrespective of tribe or religion.

Anxiety Over Fashola, Amaechi’s Fate In Buhari’s Cabinet


As the September ending deadline given by President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment of his ministers beckons, anxiety is mounting among the supporters of former governor of Lagos, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and immediate past governor of Rivers state, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi over their fate. The two All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains were among those who worked very hard to ensure the victory of the party, especially during the presidential election.

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has described the 19 governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the December 5 governorship election in the state as political jobbers, traders and contractors.

Among the 19 APC governorship aspirants are former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Timi Alaibe, former Governor Timipre Sylva, former Chief of Staff to Dickson, Diekivie Ikiogha, former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Japan, Emmanuel Otiotio, former senate candidate for Bayelsa Central,Preye Aganaba, former Commissioner Powell Godknows and Tonye Apreala, a female aspirant.

EFCC Declares MD Of Saraki's Company Wanted.


Kennedy Izuagbe, a former director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria Plc and managing director of Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited, a company owned by Bukola Saraki, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, Izuagbe (45) who is being investigated in a case of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of over N3.6 billion, has gone into hiding and all efforts to reach him have proved abortive.

Lagos Government To Buy New Helicopter


Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State is planning to buy a new helicopter for the state.

Lagos State currently has two Bell 412 helicopters, with each costing $6.7m (N1.319bn), according to aircraftcompare.com estimates.

The purchase of the new helicopter and other security gadget was pegged at N5.3bn in the budget re-ordering letter sent to the House of Assembly for approval.

The Assembly on Tuesday had set up a committee to review the request and report back to the House in a week’s time.

Ohanaeze Demands Apology From Keyamo For Calling Ndigbo ‘Noise Makers’


The youth wing of the pan Igbo socio-cultural association, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has demanded an unconditional apologies from human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo for dismissing the outrage by Ndigbo over their exclusion in federal appointments as “noise making”.
Keyamo had while defending President Muhammadu Buhari against allegations of deliberate exclusion of the South-East in his political appointments so far, said those criticising the President “are political job seekers”.

Senator Ita Enang, New SSA To President On National Assembly Matters

Ita Solomon Enang (born 23 August 1962) is the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate). He is a Nigerian politician who represented the Itu and Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011. He was elected Senator for the Uyo (North East) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom in the 2011 Federal elections.


Senator Ita Enang was appointed as the SSA to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate) on 27 August 2015.

A’court Upholds Ambode’s Victory, Fines Agbaje

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday affirmed the verdict of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the declaration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Lagos State. The appellate court aligned with the July 1, 2015 decision of the Justice Muhammad Sijaro-led tribunal which declared as incompetent and therefore struck out the petition by the second runner-up in the said election, Jimi Agbaje, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. The five-man appeal panel, after dismissing Agbaje’s appeal on the grounds of incompetence, ordered him to compensate each of the respondents in the sum of N50,000 each. Ambode had been returned winner of the April 11, 2015 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission having polled 811,994 votes ahead of Agbaje who polled 659,788 votes.

Aliyu Yahaya-Gusau Appointed As DG Budget Office

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr Aliyu Yahaya Gusau as director-general Budget Office of the Federation. Until his appointment, Gusau was the director, fiscal policy, budget monitoring and evaluation and acting director- general, Budget Office of the Federation at the exit of the former Director-General, Dr Bright Okogu. The appointment takes effect from Tuesday, 18 August, 2015; with a term of four years renewable for anothwer four years, a statement by the director of press and public relations, federal ministry of finance, Marshall Gundu, said. The new budget office chief hails from Zamfara State. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Former Gombe state gov, Senator Goje expelled from APC, accused of anti-party activities

Former governor of Gombe state and now serving Senator Danjuma Goje has been expelled by his party, APC over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities and forming parallel executive in the state. His expulsion was made known by the Gombe state APC Chairman, Magaji Doho at the party secretariat in the state today July 7th.
