See the APC's 'message' that got Nigerians talking about Desmond Elliot!

APC Nigeria tweeted shared the tweet “The Oba of Lagos does not speak for the APC. From Gen. Buhari down to Desmond Elliot, even true APC supporters, no hate speeches made so far” and some Nigerians feel that was a strong message to Desmond Elliot.

See how Nigerians react to the message bellow.

Akiolu not APC’s spokesman – Tinubu, Igbokwe

A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, is not a member of the All Progressives Congress and cannot speak on behalf of the party.
Oba-Rilwan-Akiolu1

Tinubu said this at a rally in Iganmu, Lagos, while reacting to the controversial comments of the monarch on Tuesday.

The APC National Leader, who noted that he was the first Yoruba governor to ever appoint an Igbo commissioner, said the Peoples Democratic Party, having failed to win last week’s presidential elections, were desperately trying to pull the APC into the Akiolu controversy.

He said the Coordinator of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, Ifeanyi Ubah, and the PDP leader, Bode George, were only making baseless accusations against the APC.

Tinubu said, “The oba is not a politician. His job is to accommodate all political parties, whether PDP, APC or SDP. So, what did he (Ubah) go and do at the palace?

“To you Igbos, don’t we pay your children’s school fees like others? Or is it the palace that pays for it? When we conducted an exam and a spelling competition, an Igbo boy, Ebuka, from Anambra, came first and he became the governor for one day.

“Those that won the competition three times in a row were Igbo. Ebuka was sent to Switzerland computer school and then Obafemi Awolowo University. We did not say he was an Igbo boy and he would not enjoy. He became an executive in Oando and he is now in Canada.

“Another boy, Felix, won and went to Switzerland and OAU. We paid his scholarship; we did not deny him because he is Igbo.”

In a separate statement, the Lagos State APC Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, said the monarch spoke out of anger.

He urged his kinsmen not to take out their anger on the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who knew nothing about the incident.

The statement read, “Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos is not a card-carrying member of APC. He is not a leader in the APC. He does not speak for the APC. He did not speak for Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state.

“He did not speak for our national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He did not speak for the incoming governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. His Royal Highness is at liberty to speak for himself and he spoke for himself only.

“Lagos APC appeals to Ndigbo not to take the statement as the position of the party in Lagos. We passionately appeal to Ndigbo not to carry the statement credited to Oba Akiolu too far so as not to put a knife on things that have held us together for more than 50 years now.

“If out of annoyance, you throw your cap away, a mad man will take it and use it forever.”

Northern Christian Forum foresees greater Nigeria under Buhari.

A Christian group, Northern Christian Leaders Eagle Eyes Forum that endorsed the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd), before the March 28 poll, said it is not surprised that Buhari won the poll.
Buhari_acceptance

The group’s endorsement of Buhari during the electioneering, drew the ire of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. CAN condemned and distanced itself from the endorsement.

Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Tuesday, Chairman of the Forum, Pastor Aminchi Habu, also said under Buhari, Nigeria would take its rightful position among the comity of nations.

Saying that the forum had confidence that the President-elect would steer the ship of the nation to greatness, the cleric noted that he and his other colleagues, believed that the Katsina-born general deserved his electoral victory because he worked for it.

The chairman specifically hailed the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Senator Bukola Saraki, governors Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Magatakarda Wamako and Ahmed Abdulfatai for working to ensure that Buhari won the presidential election.

“These men are not only quintessential politicians but also political strategists in their own rights and so deserve special commendation as they worked tirelessly to ensure that Nigeria changed for good,” he said.

Habu claimed that in 2011, the Christian community overwhelmingly voted for the outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan,  lamenting that the President failed the entire nation because of lack of performance.

He urged Nigerians to accept Buhari as the “change messiah” that was being expected.

Photos: Pregnant Woman gives birth on the road in Lagos

A lady gave birth to an infant on the streets of Lagos today April 7th. Eye witnesses said the girl was on her way  to the market when her water broke.

She started screaming for help and some people gathered around her and once they saw the baby’s head had been being released, they helped her deliver the infant right there. The lady and her baby are doing well.  More photos bellow…

Presidency silent on first lady's whereabouts

The wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, hasn’t been seen in public places since President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election to Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress.
dame_patience_jonathan1

The President had last Tuesday conceded defeat and called Buhari on phone when it became clear from the outcome released by the Independent National Electoral Commission he had lost his re-election bid.  Some dignitaries including serving and former government officials had visited Jonathan to commend him for conceding defeat and solidarise with him on his loss.

Among the visitors had told a correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan also received visitors within the President’s official residence same day.

“After meeting the President in the new Banquet Hall located within the premised of his office, I also visited the First Lady inside the President’s residence before leaving. She was in high spirit when I met her,” the former government official said.

But since then, the President’s wife had not been seen in public. She did not attend the Good Friday service held inside the Aso Villa Chapel with her husband neither did she attend the Easter Sunday service inside the same chapel.

Mrs. Jonathan and the President’s mother, Eunice, had always been accompanying Jonathan to such services. The last time she was seen in public was penultimate Saturday when she and her husband voted at their polling unit in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

While many believed however that she must have been too devastated by her husband’s electoral loss to appear in public so soon, our correspondent’s investigation however showed that Mrs. Jonathan might have travelled out of the country.

A Presidency source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan travelled to the United Kingdom during the week to sort out some domestic issues.

“She is in UK. She may use the opportunity of the trip to visit her children,” the source said.

President’s wife would come back to the country.  Mrs. Jonathan’s spokesman, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, did not pick the calls made to his mobile telephone line on Monday. Adewuyi did not also reply a text message sent to him on the mater.

It will be recalled that Mrs. Jonathan had during one of the presidential rallies she organised ahead of the elections claimed that Buhari would send her to jail if he was elected.

Lagos PDP calls for Oba of Lagos, Akiolu’s suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party has demanded the immediate suspension of Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, till after the governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Lagos State.

oba

The party called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to suspend the first-class monarch.  It said this was necessary in order to guarantee free, fair and credible elections in the state.  In a statement issued on Tuesday by Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, the party stated that it had also alerted the security agencies to hold the monarch responsible for any attack on non-indigenes or PDP members in Lagos.

According to the PDP, which is the major opposition party in the state, the silence of the governor of the state, Fashola, over 48 hours after such inflammatory statement and threat to life suggests that the king acted on behalf of the state government.

The statement said in part, “The governor is thus a conspirator in this threat to life and must also be held accountable for any violence in this elections. We have at this point been vindicated about the desperation of the APC to retain Lagos state at all cost including the All Progressives Congress’ plan not to concede the imminent defeat on April 11.

“The positions of the PDP are coming on the heels of the now viral threat issued by the Oba of Lagos to Igbos that they must vote for the APC Governorship Candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, or be drowned in Lagos water.”

Despite the alleged threat to their lives, PDP urged Lagos non-indigenes and others to be part of Saturday’s voting exercise.

Kenyan air strikes ‘destroy’ Al-Shabab camps in Somalia

The Kenyan air force has said it destroyed two al-Shabab camps in Somalia, in the first major military response since the armed group massacred students at a Kenyan university last week.

al-shabab

Gunmen from the al-Qaeda-aligned group killed 148 people on Thursday when they stormed the Garissa University College campus, some 200km from the Somali border.

Jets pounded the camps in the Gedo region on the other side of the frontier on Sunday and Monday, Kenya Defence Forces spokesman David Obonyo said on Monday. The mission was part of efforts to stop fighters from those camps carrying out cross-border raids into Kenya.

“Our aerial images show that the camps were completely destroyed,” he said, adding that cloud cover made it difficult to estimate the death toll.

Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabab’s military operations spokesman, told the Reuters news agency that none of its camps were damaged in Sunday’s raid, and that the fighter jets had instead struck farmland.

After besieging the university, the al-Shabab gunmen lined up non-Muslim students before executing them in the armed group’s bloodiest attack to date.

The attack claimed the lives of 142 students, three police officers and three soldiers.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday pledged that the attackers would face justice for the “mindless slaughter” and vowed to retaliate for the killings in the “severest way.”

US urges citizens to flee Yemen by sea

The United States admitted Monday that it has no immediate plans to rescue its nationals stranded in war-torn Yemen and urged them to flee the raging conflict by sea.
obama

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf could not tell reporters how many American civilians are thought to be caught up in the conflict, as citizens of other nations take to ships.

But she said US authorities would contact those that it could, and advise them of opportunities to board ships from allied nations docking to pick up their own nationals.

“At this point, we have encouraged all US citizens to shelter and secure locations until they’re able to depart safely. The airports are still closed, is my understanding,” she said.

A protest website representing Yemeni Americans — stuckinyemen.com — has accused Washington of abandoning dual nationals last month in its haste to close its embassy in Yemen.

Asked about a claim that 200 US citizens have signed up to the site, Harf said officials had been unable to confirm the figure and urged them to sign on to a State Department list.

France has evacuated 63 foreign nationals from the Yemeni port of Balhaf and frigates from the Chinese and Indian navies have rescued 450 and 100 people respectively from Hodeida.

ATM robbers hit Lagos, install device to collect pins & ATM card data..How to Spot Card Skimmers!

ATMs located in highbrow areas in Lagos particularly in Victoria Island and Lekki, might have been compromised following reports of hackers planting fraud devices on some machines so as to get the pin codes and other details of the ATM cards of unsuspecting users and use them to carry out fraudulent activities.
how-to-spot-and-avoid-credit-card-skimmers
(How to Spot and Avoid Credit Card Skimmers- click to read)A banker who spoke with Punch said “A number of the ATMs in Victoria Island and Lekki axis have been compromised by hackers. Some of these fraudsters visit those ATMs very late in the night or very early in the morning to fix some fraud devices on them, which are capable of collecting cardholders’ information, including their passwords. They come back later to remove those devices.

The information collected is then used to commit fraud against those customers later. Most of us (banks) are aware of the development and we are very vigilant now. What some of us have done is to get a patrol team of security men to start combing the affected areas and the ATMs from time to time. We will get those guys soon.” the anonymous banker said

Also confirming the report, the Vice-Chairman, Committee of e-Banking Industry Heads, Mr. Dele Adeyinka said banks have recently installed anti-skimming devices on their ATMs so as to checkmate such illicit activities.

“Yes, it is true that hackers are carrying out those activities. It is not only in Victoria Island axis, they are doing it everywhere. But all the banks have complied with the CBN directive on anti-fraud tools. So, it will be difficult for those fraud devices to work.”he said

While some of the cardholders’ information collected by the fraudsters were being used to commit online-related frauds locally, a large number was used to clone ATM cards and used to shop in malls abroad, especially in the US.

As a way to checkmate the activities of these fraudsters, the Central Bank of Nigeria in January this year issued a directive to all Nigerian banks to  prevent payment cards (debit and credit) issued by them from working in fraud-prone countries, including the US, South Africa and China and that they would be liable for any fraudulent transaction carried out in those countries using a customers cloned ATM card. The CBN in another  circular released on February 1, 2015, instructed all Nigerian banks to stop the payment/ATM cards from working in non-Europay, MasterCard and Visa countries. The circular stated that ATM cards that would work in designated countries must be activated only during the period the customer would be spending outside Nigeria.

The circular which was signed by the Director, Banking and Payment System, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, reads in part, “The occurrence of card present frauds in non-EMV environments is on the increase, especially when international hybrid cards issued by Nigerian banks are used in non-EMV environments like the USA. It has, therefore, become necessary for the CBN to issue the following directives and that all DMBs should do the following: collate all their card frauds abroad and send to the CBN not later than January 30, 2015; subsequently, all data on card frauds occurring abroad should be rendered on the NIBSS fraud portal; implement anti-fraud solution on their card management systems not later than January 30, 2015; ensure that from February 1, 2015, only customers that expressly indicated the intention of travelling to non-EMV jurisdictions would have their cards default to the magnetic stripe and for the period indicated by the cardholder only.”

Tribalism breaks Toke Makinwa's heart, recounts a personal experience.

See what the media personality posted on IG this morning concerning tribal differences…

‘There is so much to say on this topic, it is heartbreaking but real. Tribalism has been and is still been practiced today. Lagos is home for everyone, our generation knows better too. Let’s not let this come in between us, the OBA’s statement was ignorant but do we really blame him? We all at some point in our lives have been on the receiving end of acts of tribalism. Let’s take out the tension and be real with each-other. Our parents generation practiced tribalism openly and they were not corrected. In some homes befriending people from other tribes was frowned on, marrying from another tribe is still being frowned on today, tribalism even from people of the same tribe is real too. What we need is to educate and not instigate. I had Igbo friends growing up, I was the only Yoruba girl in the midst of Igbo girls. Did they make fun of me? Sometimes but it wasn’t out of malice. We lived, we loved and we are still very close. I have had a friend’s mum tell me “haaa omo ondo ni e? Mi o mo ooo, a kin ba ondo sore” meaning – I’m from Ondo? She didn’t know…. If she had, she won’t let her daughter befriend me cos they don’t like Ondo people, Ondo and Ijebu don’t mix… I was shocked. She went ahead and said “You Ondo people are wicked”.

My friend is from  Ijebu ooooo, we are both Yoruba girls and that statement was made by her mum. We are still friends today and her mum got over it. Please educate people around you. Vote who you want, vote your conscience but please stop with the tribalism comments. Our beauty is in our diversity. It is a distraction, don’t fall for it. Let’s all live as one.’

Nollywood director Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi reacts to Kunle Afolayan's tweets about the Ibos

You realize when individuals have an opinion about you and just can’t chill for the proper moment to let you to know…:-). Nollywood director Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi aka Mr Hollywood reacts to Kunle Afolayan’s tweets

“I almost ignored Kunle Afolayan’s useless tweets about Igbos being the only Pirates in Nigeria because to me, Kunle is just an over rated Nollywood film maker. He’s not better than Izu Ojukwu, Teco Benson, Obi Emelonye, Chineze Anyaene to mention but a few.

The secret of Kunle is his DOP Yinka Davies who does everything for him and at the end of the day Kunle will just come and announce ‘action’… Give him another local DOP and see if Kunle is worth all the praises his kinsmen showers on him. Kunle should thank Peace Anyiam Osigwe for giving him the platform of AMAA as a pedestal to limelight. Trust me, if Kunle walks the street of Onitsha, Aba, Enugu or any where outside yoruba land, not even one person will recognise him as a celebrity. I will rather worry myself with the Oba’s threat to Ndi igbo than spend one second of my time thinking about Kunle’s senseless tweets about the Igbos.

Houthis Capable of Attacking Saudi Arabia, Hezbollah Leader Says

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said within an interview that the Houthi command hasn’t made a decision regarding potential attacks on Saudi Arabia, which includes been leading international coalition efforts from the rebels in Yemen, although there’s a genuine likelihood of such move.

 nasrallah

The Houthi command has not made a decision regarding potential attacks on Saudi Arabia, which has been leading international coalition efforts against the rebels in Yemen, although there is a real possibility of such move, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah told the Syrian News Channel (Al-Ikhbariyah).

“As of now, the leadership in charge of military action in Yemen has not decided whether to cut off the Bab-el-Mandeb straight [which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden] and launch attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia, despite the fact that they have such capabilities,” Nasrallah said.

According to the leader of the Beirut-based militant group, Saudi Arabia and the coalition are suffering a “catastrophic failure” in their efforts to defeat Houthis through airstrikes as the attacks have turned Yemeni residents against the authorities. An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been carrying out airstrikes against the Shiite Houthi rebels since March 26, following a request for military aid from Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi who has left the country amid the hostilities.

The rising death toll from the violence prompted Russia to call for a “humanitarian pause” in fighting.  A UN resolution to this effect is currently being considered by the 15-nation UN Security Council.

Hezbollah, a paramilitary and political organization originating in Lebanon’s Shiite population, was established in the 1980s. The group’s primary goal was military opposition to Israel’s occupation of Lebanon.

Hezbollah has been helping the Syrian government fight ISIL extremists and radical Sunni militants, including al-Nusra Front, a Syrian affiliate of al-Qaeda.

Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization by many Western governments including Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom and many European states, but not by Russia.
