Presidential Directive: Jonathan’s Men Secretly Returning FG Property

Rattled by the directive handed down by President Muhammadu Buhari that they should return all government property in their possession, government officials who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan have started returning some of the assets they took away as they left office.

LEADERSHIP checks revealed that by yesterday some former top government officials were secretly returning government property, including vehicles, generator sets and furniture to the ministries, agencies and even some departments in Aso Rock where they were taken from.

16 Dead In Kwara State Polytechnic Students’ Cult Clash

No fewer than 16 people were at the weekend, killed in bloody clashes between suspected cult members of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

Though, the cause of the clashes have not been ascertained, it was gathered that suspected members of Aiye and Eiye confraternities struck first at the polytechnic.

The country’s National News Agency reports that Mr. Al Assir was caught at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport on Saturday while trying to board a flight to Egypt using a fake Palestinian passport.

Akpabio Denies Turning Government House To ‘sex Haven’ During His Tenure

Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio has denied reports that he turned the state government house into a sex haven during his tenure.

The allegation was contained in a report published in Saturday Punch titled “How Governors Turn Government Houses to Sex Havens.”

Akpabio, via a statement released by his media aide, Anietie Ekong, urged Nigerians to ignore the article.
The statement reads:

Said this woman who has lost the use of her legs, is seated night and day dangerously on the edge of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, less than 1km away from the Governor's office in Alausa and less than 100m away from the secret service HQ in Magodo. She has been in this position for more than 3 days now. Don't we have minimum safe harbour for disabled destitute like this woman? Can we please go there to help her? I'm sure there's a government agency that handles things like this.

Chigozie Obioma's The Fisherman makes the UK Guardian First Book Award longlist

It has been a good year so far for Nigerian author, Chigozie Obioma as his debut novel, The Fishermen' which was shortlisted for the prestigious Man Booker Award in July is long-listed for the 2015 Guardian First Book Award. Guardian First Book Award is a literary award by British national daily newspaper The Guardian that annually recognizes one book by a new writer. It was established in 1999. The prize is worth £10,000. Good luck to him.

Buhari to employ 10,000 police officers, puts CCTV in major towns

Against the backdrop of checkmating crime, and criminal tendencies among youths arising from the problems of massive unemployment in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the federal government is emplacing appropriate framework that will facilitate the employment of an extra 10, 000 Police officers.

Additionally, he said government is to establish properly trained and equipped federal anti- terrorism, multi-agency task force that will effectively address the challenge of Boko Haram and any form of insurgency in a sustainable manner.

Catholic priest killed in Imo

During the weekend, a Claretian priest of the Catholic Church was murdered in Owerri, Imo state.
The priest, whose full identity could not be ascertained at press time, was an academic staff of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, he said the priest was murdered by assassins on a bush path.

Police arrest 78-year-old man for raping girl, 11

Police in Lagos have arrested a 78-year-old man, Alhaji Dauda Adebowale, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, Remilekun (not her real name).

The incident was said to have happened in Pen Cinema, in the Agege area of the state.
It was learnt that some time in June 2015, Remilekun was passing by a shop where the old man lived alone when he called to send her on an errand.

Indonesian Twin-Turbo Aircraft Carrying 54 People Just Disappears

An Indonesian  aircraft carrying 54 people lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday in the remote, forested eastern Papua region, the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) said, with search efforts hampered by failing light as night falls.

"We can't confirm it has crashed. We can say contact has been lost with the plane," BASARNAS chief Bambang Soelystyo told Reuters by phone.

"It's a Trigana airline plane carrying 54 people including 5 crew. We are working to get more details."
