Chinese government is ready to invest one billion dollars in Nasarawa State in the next five years through Tongyi group as part of its strategic partnership aimed at boosting commerce and trade.

On Monday, a girl who was billed to wed on Saturday returned from UK aboard British Airways flight. After going through Immigration checks, she went to the carousel to pick her luggage. As she was exiting from arrivals, she was stopped by a Nigerian Customs Service officer who directed her to open her luggage. She complied. After they searched her luggage and did not find anything incriminating, they picked her wedding gown and said it was contraband; therefore she had to pay N30, 000 tax for it. She protested and said that it was her personal effect; that she did not buy it for sale and there was only one wedding gown in her luggage. They insisted she must pay.

The deceased, simply identified as Emmanuel, reportedly went to ease himself in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving his father and sister inside their one-room apartment.
His sister, who had waited endlessly for his return, went to check on him in the toilet situated at the boys quarters of the building on Alafia Street.

The poor drainage system in Kano was yesterday exposed as flood submerged some parts of the city.
The flood, which began immediately after a 45-minute rainfall, started at the time people were rushing to close from their business premises.

The flood sacked traders at Kurmi market and some residents from their houses around Yanmota in Dala area of the city as a result of a heavy rain, which started at about 5.41p.m.

The authorities of Adamawa State University, Mubi, have recruited 80 vigilante men and hunters to ensure the security of the university community. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Joshua Shall, disclosed this to newsmen in Mubi on Thursday, just as the institution resumed academic activities. Buhari Orders IG To Reduce Policemen Attached To Dignitaries

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday directed the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to prune down the number of policemen attached to dignitaries across the country.

He also directed the police boss to redeploy all policemen withdrawn from that role to regular police duties.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, quoted the President as speaking during a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Police Service Commission in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.


Adesina also said the President warned that that he would not tolerate any irregularities or extortion of money from unemployed Nigerians in the coming recruitment into the police.

He said applicants having to pay bribes before being accepted into the police in the past was totally unacceptable.

The President told the officials that those in charge of recruitment and training in the Police must be above board and eschew every form of extortion and underhand dealing.

The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has denied claims by his successor, Chief Nyesom Wike, that he (Amaechi) left an empty treasury before leaving office.

Amaechi described, in a statement from his media officer via electronic mail, as “a lie,” the claim of empty treasury by Wike, adding that he left billions of Naira in cash and assets before leaving office as governor.

Tunde Fowler Set To Be Named FIRS chairman


Babatunde Fowler, the Executive Chairman Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue and Chief Executive Officer Lagos State Internal Revenue Service is set to be named the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

A source close to the Presidency told PM News that the giant strides of Fowler in Lagos state has landed him the top job under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The source said the announcement of Fowler will be made in the next few days, adding that, “it should be made public latest next week”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed William Babatunde Fowler as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), a statement by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, has said.

Mr. Buhari, according to the statement, also appointed Aliyu Yahaya Gusau as Director-General , Budget Office of the Federation.
Mr. Fowler, the new FIRS boss, was the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014.
