Military Vows To Crush Niger Delta Militants


Ootraged at the increasing threat that militants in the Niger Delta posed to the economy, the Nigerian Military declared war on them yesterday.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, the service chiefs from the Nigerian Navy (NN) and the Nigerian Army (NA), Vice Adm. Ibok Ette-Ibas and Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, respectively, made the declaration of war at different military functions in Lagos.

The CDS, who was the guest of honour at the navy’s 60th diamond anniversary in Lagos, said the military would continue its onslaught against militants’ activities in the Niger Delta region and insurgency in the Northeast.

THE House of Representa­tives Committee on Privati­sation yesterday, halted the proposed privatisation of the country’s three refineries by the Nigerian National Petro­leum Corporation (NNPC).

The affected refineries are located in Kaduna, Port-Har­court and Warri. The Com­mittee, which is investigating the move to sell the refineries by the NNPC rather than the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) declared that NNPC violated the provisions of the BPE Act Section 2, 2009.

Mohammed Lawan Buba Appointed As PPRRA Chairman

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir David Lawal, has announced the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Lawan Buba as chairman of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).

He disclosed this in Abuja yesterday after a meeting with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to review issues involved in the new pump price of petrol recently announced by the federal government.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its investigation of all gravy funds with aim of recovering as much from the beneficiaries.

The funds came from N23billion Allison Madueke set up for the presidential election of 2015.

According to an EFCC source, Senator Sa’idu Umar Kumo of Gombe State, who was the former national secretary of the All Nigerian peoples Party, (ANPP) signed and collected four hundred and fifty million naira (N450M), campaign fund for the re-election of the former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Not less than five communities of Ladin Buta near Khaddamari village of Jere Local Government Area of Borno state were attacked by suspected members of dreaded Boko Haram sect who meted horror on the villagers. According to reports, the terrorists invaded the communities around 7pm on Tuesday and set ablaze many houses after killing scores of residents and wounding many others. Some of the deceased have been laid to rest according to Islamic rites. Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Borno State Hon Usman Durkwa who represented governor Kashim Shettima visited, sympathized and commiserated with the victims of the gruesome attack at Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

As most commentators had predicted, Putin has agreed to exchange Nadezhda Savchenko for 2 Russians citizens accused by the Junta of being terrorists.  To be honest, I am deeply disgusted by the fact that this rabid Nazi was allowed to walk free.  Of course, I understand that IF the two Russians captured by the Ukies were really any kind of intelligence officers, Putin just had to obtain their release.

Buhari Appoints Ja’afaru As Comptroller-general Of Prisons

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Ahmed Ja’afaru to take over from Dr Peter Ekpendu as the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service, NPS. This is contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Mr Bassey Akpanyung, and issued on Tuesday. The new Prison boss was, until his appointment, an Assistant Controller General of Prisons and was serving at the Prisons Headquarters in Abuja. According to the statement which was made available to newsmen, Ja’afaru replaces Ekpendu who retired from service on May 17, 2016 after his mandatory 35 years in service. Ja’afaru’s appointment took effect from May 17, 2016, same day that Ekpendu retired from service.
